“Lettie” has been graciously leased to QG Farm by the Wilburn sisters of Rollingwoods Farm, Mississippi in order to breed her to Maple Side Mr. Magic. He did successfully cover her this season and we expect a dynamite foal from this cross next year. Lettie is an adorable Small bay roan with tons of chrome, and has had a hugely successful show career on the Welsh circuit. She is one of Dr. Ruth, Joanna, and Sally Ross’ special mares. A Cloe Olympian grand daughter, she brings an amazing pedigree with her. We are all very excited for next year’s foal!

“Jiminy” is Mr. Magic’s only 2012 foal, and he is something special for sure! This cross produced our “Manny”, so we know that we will be getting intelligence and athleticism. He is friendly and inquisitive, healthy and pretty. Now that he is molting we can see that he will be dark, seal brown like his sire. Sale pending.

This yearling gelding is out of our fancy-moving large mare, and by the multi-talented, well-mannered stallion Flying Diamond the Bailef owned by Janice Early of Lazy J Welsh Pony Ranch, Texas. He is very correct, very athletic, and exceptionally sweet-natured. Oh, and he’s really pretty too: chestnut with a small star and four white stockings. Will likely mature Medium. Bailiwick is quite the quick study! He leads, ties, loads, clips, bathes,and has worn a surcingle in the round pen and on the lunge line. He’s really developing into a handsome young man and a nice mover. I think he’s going to be a charmer just like his half-brother Daddy-O!

Mr. Magic is an incredible 14 hand dark bay stallion. He is a proven sire of successful Pony Hunters. He was bred by Carol Lush at Maple Side Farm, who, recognizing his gifts of athleticism, grace, and intelligence promoted him as a Hunter Pony stallion. He stood at Maple Side Farm his entire career, until Carol’s untimely passing in 2009. We are most fortunate to have Mr. Magic on QG Farm now to continue to stand at public stud. Mr. Magic’s progeny inherit his beautiful gaits, jumping ability, and calm demeanor. His get include: Magical Diamond (2011 USEF Horse of the Year Green Pony Hunter Champion), Maple Side Denzel (Reserve Champion Large Pony Hunter 2012 Devon Horse Show), Maple Side Dolcetto, Smallwood Lickety Split, Dumbledore, Maple Side Wish List (#7 on USEF Pony Hunter Breeding Leading Sires list), and our own Qualen’s Commence the Magic. Mr. Magic is most suitable for mares who are Small or Medium if ponies are desired. Crosses with TB mares would likely produce exceptional Small Hunters.

Maple Side Mary Sunshine

Bred and raised by Carol Lush of Maple Side Farms, Mary was acquired from Carol’s estate. She is a beautiful medium pony with a sweet disposition and large, kind eye. Mary had a hock fracture early on in life, so her hind end is underdeveloped, but she has excellent breeding and would have been a “knockout” if she had stayed sound. Mary had at least one foal for Carol, Maple Side Cecil, who is owned by Nancy Baginski of St. Louis who qualified for Pony Finals in 2012 and finished 8th overall in the Large Greens! We look forward to having her as a member of our broodmare band. Mary has been successfully covered by Mr. Magic for a 2013 foal. We are definitely looking forward to some more “magic”!!

“Harry” was purchased by Heidemarie Gentryswift of Kingsworth Farms, GA. He is now competing in the Pony Hunters. Update, 2012: Heidemarie tells me that Harry has been purchased by a nice family who love him very much. Good luck to Harry and his new friends!

“Pip” is owned and shown by Moriah Hendrick. We hear that he is cleaning up in Children’s Hunter Pony on the Missouri circuit! Moriah’s mother, Cortland Hendrick is owner and trainer at Cornerstone Farms, a hunter-jumper facility near St Louis. Best wishes Moriah and Pip!

Qualen’s Tupelo Honey

Tupelo is a pretty palomino registered Half-Welsh pony. She is athletic and intelligent, and her ground training is coming along nicely. At three years old, she has now started under saddle. I think she is going to be a solid Children’s Hunter Pony. She is very pretty and feminine, moves well, and free jumps in really nice form! Will finish Medium.

Qualen’s Commence the Magic

We have high hopes for this young guy. His sire, our stallion Maple Side Mr. Magic, is a known producer of exceptional hunter ponies. We are confident that Manny will join that list along with many half-siblings. His dam, our Sec B mare Rex, is pretty, intelligent, and even-tempered. “Manny” is very athletic and a joy to watch in the pasture, round pen, and show arena — what a beautiful mover with a reaching trot and suspension. He is also easy to handle and striking to look at. He is very forward with a big stride — a fast learner and fun to ride! Check out his free-jumping photos below.

Manny is out on lease to Elizabeth and Lisa Foster of Born Free Farm, Dover, MA. He is currently showing at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington and has had many good ribbons, and a championship or two. As of early February is the leader in the USEF Medium Green Pony Hunters.

Muffy

This mare has exceptional Welsh breeding and is the epitome of the “typey” Sec A pony with large kind eye, tiny ears, and a long elegant neck. Her gaits also show the grace and elegance of the Welsh hunter pony. Muffit has produced two wonderful foals for Qualen’s Gangrels farm (Picturesque Wiseman and Casual But Chic). Alas, Muffy’s genital melanomas have made further breeding impossible. She will live out her days enjoying the pastures, and being the surrogate “Grand Ma” at Qualen’s Gangrels farm. Sadly, Muffy was laid to rest this summer. She will be missed by the Qualen’s Gangrel’s people and ponies. Bye, Muff.
